Personally speaking, I really wouldn't change anything about the drift other than maybe having a smart helmet (basically helps with steering and such in the mobile game) equivalent when the game comes out since I feel like a lot of newcomers could have issues with it. One good way to time it is to wait for the drifting sound effect to finish and then release & press (if you are coming out of the drift anyway). really show a degree of depth here that I never would've imagined these games had. I think what I like about it most is how non-arcadey it feels in a sense, you really have to treat your drifts with a high degree of respect since compared to other kart racers, it isn't something you can just pick up and be good at with a few sessions. Didn't get a chance to play the beta myself (didn't actually find out there had been one until long after unfortunately) but if it's the same as the mobile game (and i'm assuming all the games before it) I like it way more than I thought I would at a first glance.
